DVR recorded movie ratings #5

What can I say? The list on my DVR is actually getting smaller and smaller even though I know I've added movies. Something's not right, but I'm not going to bother with it for the time being. I've been thinking about my rating scale and how it's not fair to Daisy that I only use her name and not some type of icon or something in relation to her. Honestly, I haven't even bothered trying to make it any different, but it's the thought that counts (at least for the time being).

• Winter's Bone: Of all places, I recorded this off of Lifetime. I had read articles and such about how Jennifer Lawrence was great in this movie. So I decided to record and watch it. The movie suuuuucks. I don't mean the actual movie, but the whole situation and the characters suck. Jennifer trying to find her drug dealing dad so that he can show up to court because he put the house up for collateral on his bail. The people living in the Ozarks ( which I hope they aren't really like that) who turn their backs to her when she wants information of where her dad may be. The uncle (who has a change of heart after a while). The ladies that beat the shit out of her. The way she finds her dad, thanks to the ladies that beat her earlier in the movie. The whole situation sucked for her. The movie was good. So good, it caught my hubby's interest for at least half of the film, but I think it had to do more with how Jennifer was being treated and her and her family's situation. I don't know what else to really say about this movie, except go see it (unedited and commercial free of course), but don't forget that I warned you of what you are about to see. I give it 4 Daisy-girls.

• X: (aka X:Night of Vengeance). Uhm...wow...ya...wow. First of all, this movie starts out with a naked guy standing in the middle of the room while a lady is talking about his features to a circle of high-class looking women. Okay, let's go back...the movie starts out with a naked guy standing...NAKED! Not as in, oh I see his ass and a lil something. More as in I see his chest, his ass, his cock and his balls.... NAKED! Ok, now that we have gotten that out of the way, the movie doesn't have much else on the guy. It has to do with the girl. High-end call girl who stumbles upon a runaway and asks her if she wants to earn some fast cash by being involved in a threesome. Well, obviously shit goes down and soon enough they are being hunted down by some  bad cop who pretty much wants them dead. It's pretty high paced and lots more girl beatings (wayyyyyyyyyyyy more than Winter's Bone). The lady pretty much gets the shit beat out of her multiple times and repeatedly punched in the face (at that point I pointed out to my hubby that she's not even bleeding all that badly except for a minor cut on the corner of her lip). the homeless girl got annoying a few times, but the movie was too fast paced for me to take much interest. I was rooting more for the beaten gal. Ok, so going back to the plot of the movie...hmm, well I already covered that about after the threesome going bad. I would recommend going to see this movie. There is a lot of tits, ass, dick, chi-chis, and more boobs, but the story line is pretty interesting. I give this movie 4 Daisy-girls.

• Things We Lost In The Fire: It stars Halle Barry, Benicio Del Toro and flashback scenes of David Duchovny. Okay, I get that Halle Barry is hot, but WHY must she always look run down in movies? I'm not saying she needs to be sexy and shit in movies, but why dumb down her looks? Will she not be believable as a widow mourning the loss of her husband and a mom trying to keep her kids happy if she were to look hot? *shakes head* Anyway, this movie got 3 stars and I was left wondering why. I mean the movie is not bad or even that bad, but I don't think it deserves 3 our of 4 stars. Basically David (husband) dies and Halle (wife) asks Benicio to move in because he is her hubby's drug addicted best friend. He says no at first but then reconsiders when she tells him that he can have a place to live rent free in return for him (a man) being there and to help her cope with the murder of her husband (which is told in flashback almost toward the end of the movie). Benicio goes through withdrawals, gets hooked again, and again goes through withdrawals. I don't get what SHE was getting out of all this because it seemed to me that she just had an extra kid to take care of seeing as she was cooking, doing laundry...all for him, as if he was a replacement hubby, BUT she wasn't getting any sex out of it. Like I said, the movie was pretty decent, I just don't see why it was given three stars. I'm willing to give it, well shit, like I've mentioned before I don't dare cut Daisy in half, so I'm going to give this movie 3 Daisy-girls ( if I didn't love my Daisy SO much, I wold give this movie 2.5).

DVR movie recording reviews #3

Well, well. I saw these movies about two weeks ago and meant to comment on them, but we were pretty busy last weekend. We ended up going to the Houston Auto Show. Although we aren't big car enthusiasts, it was only 10 bucks and close by. It turned out to be pretty damn cool. There were a few car companies that had test driving, in which you got a gift afterwards. We test drove a Honda Accord and got two  $10 gift cards for Target. We then test drove Volkswagon. I drove the Passat and my hubby drove the Beetle. In the end we got two pairs of sunglasses. The rest of the show was good. Not that we are car hunting but it was nice to get a close-up view of cars that we deemed nice or seemed slightly interested in by watching Top Gear or other sources. We also had high hopes for some cars, but it turned out that they weren't as good or nice as we had thought they were. Still love the BMW X5 (hubby says it's big, I said I can really see myself driving that thing), loved the Volkswagon, loved the Honda. But anywayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, enough about our super-exciting life of non-car enthusiasts, here are three movie reviews:

• Me and Orson Welles: I have never seen a Zack Efron movie (I tried to watch the one about him seeing his younger dead brother, but I got as far as 15 minutes into it and gave up. High School Musical....forget it), but that's not to say that the guy is not cute. He can look hot in some cases. Anyway, this movie is about him being in high school and him getting an acting job in an Orson Welles production of Julius Caesar in 1937. Love the clothes and make-up of that era. It was pretty good. Claire Danes also comes out in it. I don't recall how old she is supposed to be, but I do know that she will do "whatever it takes" for her to meet the right people so she could move up. Zack tries his best in acting to satisfy Orson, but also wants to be true to himself. I don't know much about Orson Welles, but I do know that he comes out in everything he directed, or was it produced? Either way, he is portrayed here as an egotistical bastard that does whatever he can to get his way. Even if it means not giving credit to people who deserve it, or using people just for a grand opening and then firing them after the production is over. I would suggest watching the movie, it was pretty decent.. not at the theater though. I would give this 2.5 Daisy-girls, but since I love my Daisy TOO much and not dare cut her in half, I suggest 3 Daisy-girls.
• The Perfect Family: I had been wanting to see this movie when it came out last year in the theater, but never got a chance. I'm glad I waited. It stars Kathleen Turner as a devoted Catholic mom who is being nominated as  "Catholic of the Year" by her church. She is excited about this, but once she is told that her family will be interviewed so they can see how a Catholic's life should be lived, her happiness quickly fades away. She is married and has two adult children, a son and a daughter. Her husband goes on day to day doing his usual routine of going to work and listening to his wife talk about what she did at church. The son, played by Jason Ritter, is married, but leaves his wife to be with a manicurist. And her daughter, played by Emily Deschanel, is a lesbian and engaged, but mom doesn't know that just yet. Mom tries to hide all this from the church and her competition (Sharon Lawrence), who she has known, I think, since high school. It turns out that the more Mom tried to fix, hide, and ignore things, they do not go away. In the end, she ends up writing a letter to her church telling them the truth and they realize that she could in fact by the "Catholic of the Year" based on her being truthful to everyone. It was a good movie...for Lifetime, which is where I saw it on. I would not suggest paying to see this movie. Just like the Auto Show, my expectations seemed a bit high for such a TV-like movie. I give this movie 2 Daisy-girls.
• The Woods:  I was flipping through the guide and this movie sounded interesting when I read it. I don't know anyone who comes out in it, except for Patricia Clarkson and Bruce Campbell (Burn Notice, which my hubby watches). It turns out that Bruce's daughter Heather burned something down and was taken to a a bad-girl school located in the woods. It turns out that some scary crap happened in the woods years ago and that if you go in there, you will most likely not come back. Has to do with some three girls being called witches and how they had been outcasted by everyone at the school. I think they either ended up killing them, oh yeah, they did with an ax. Well maybe hurting them, but wtf gets hurt with an ax to the head or face? Anyway, back to current time, the bad girl gets called a fire-crotch by the mean girl. Strange stuff happens at night that has to do with fog and tree branches. It's kind of a trippy movie, and they do talk about the axed girls in the woods from the past, so you get the back story to all this that is going on. BUT, it turns out that those girls from the past aren't really dead. No, they are not zombies or anything like that. But it's trippy in a way. Like when Dad and Heather are forced to drink some blood from the headmaster and they both barf and there is either a small branch or a leaf coming out of their mouths. It turns out that the woods really play a BIG part in this movie. If you want to see something different, not scary or gruesome, just mysterious, watch this movie. I give this 3 Daisy-girls.

Psssst... I never really left. I'm right here!!!!

     I 'm back. I mean, I never really left. It was more of I blogged about something, next thing I know it's been over two months. So, where have I been? Nowhere really. Just time got the best of me and I got busy doing every day things. It was my hubby's birthday last week, and for the first time, I never made him anything. Instead, I went over to Etsy and bought him a few things. Not much of a celebration and I felt bad about it. That whole week was pretty hectic and we are both glad it's over.
     I started to crochet. Crap! I don't think I really stopped doing so since I've been gone. From the last entry to now, I have done about 2 or 3 projects and one almost done. That reminds me, the only reason I probably didn't finished the current project tonight was because....I ran out of white yarn!!!! So close (actually, I'm on row 48 out of 69), but ya, I'm THIS close to finishing it and I can''t.
It's looking pretty decent, I made a few minor errors, but they are hardly noticeable. But it bothers me, a bit, not unlike other projects where I notice I messed up about 30 rows too late and a part of me is upset that I want to yank the whole project out and start over. And another part of me just wants to ignore it so I can keep counting my stitches.
     This reminds me of when I mentioned these errors to my hubby and he comments on how " no one will really notice since they don't know anything about crocheting". I usually glare at him and sternly say, " I NOTICE AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS!" So, this time I have decided to keep mum about the whole thing until I am done. Doesn't really matter all that much (yes it does) because I'm making him take me to Michael's after work to buy more yarn! Woohooooo!!!!

If not today, then when

It's Memorial Day and I have the day off. The hubby does not. That entitles me to having the house to myself. One would say YAY! I am not one of them. There's stuff to do around here, yet I don't know why I am wasting time online. Not really chores, but just things I wish I would have more time for:

1. putting a new needle in my sewing machine.
2. getting all our family framed pictures and putting them up on the wall
3. vacuuming (okay, so this one is a chore)
4.  starting a new crochet project (unsure of what to do yet)
5.  putting our wedding and winter vacation pictures in the photo albums

I wish the car wash place wasn't closed today, at least that could have been accomplished.
The hubby said that when he gets home we can finally put the shelf up over my sewing table. This I am excited about. I feel that with that up, I can actually get to messing around more with the sewing machine and that will inspire me to get back to my creativity.
But for now, I will leave a very special drawing that Angus Oblong drew for us this past weekend at Comipalooza...

 I think we look goofier on this year's drawing than last years Comicpalooza...
